Why do steroids thin the skin? Is there any way of reversing the effects on the skin?

Skin atrophy is mostly due to a decrease in collagen synthesis. Since collagen is the most abundant protein in the skin, the inhibition of its synthesis leads to atrophy.

I am not aware of any mechanism to reverse this process I am afraid.

do not know you did not state why you take them.
Reply:I use a steroid cream for eczema. It has to be used sparingly because it thins the skin. It must be strong stuff to do that.
